Residents of Aktau’s District 1 have expressed opposition to the tree removal near House No. 33, citing that the greenery is being cleared for a new children’s playground.
“Shade and Tranquility Lost”
Witnesses report that this area was one of the few green spots in the district.
“There was always shade here, and you could hear birds singing. It was a perfect spot for summer walks. Now everything is being removed. Some plant trees, others cut them down,” said one resident.
Locals find the decision paradoxical, especially as ecological campaigns and greening challenges are underway. Social media users questioned, “Who authorized the tree cutting and why was the project implemented without public agreement?”
Administration Explains: Three Trees Removed, Fifty to Be Planted
The Aktau administration provided an explanation.
The city administration’s housing and communal services department stated that the work is part of the “Public Participation Budget” program. In 2024, ten projects that received over 50 votes are being implemented under this program.
“The children’s playground in District 1 is being built in the yard of House 33. Due to the large project area and the inability to relocate some trees, three were cut down. The rest were bushes,” stated officials from the department.
Officials also announced that 50 new trees will be planted once construction is complete.
